Taekwando Belts

I think everybody know one kind of art of Korea called "Taekwondo". It is one kind of modern martial art that fast, high and spinning kicks. TAE means to kick .KWON means to strike or block with hand. DO means art. When we put it together, it means The art of Kicking and Punching.

Less of them will know that it can seperate into many classes. It can divide by the color of belts. There are 9 degrees that are white yellow green blue red poom and black. It is so confuse for me in the first the I learn about this. I think it is not too difficult if I want to learn.

First of all, I will suggest the meaning of the belts that show the skill of the students.

White Belt (10th Geup)

The color white indicates that a person is "innocent", has no knowledge of Taekwondo.

Yellow Belt (8th Geup)

The color yellow indicates that the person is getting to know the basic techniques.

Green Belt (6th Geup)

The color green indicates that a student is growing as a Taekwondo student. The color of the belt is compared to a plant growing its leafs.

Blue Belt (4th Geup)

The color blue indicates that a student is reaching higher, like a plant that is growing towards the sky.

Red Belt (2nd Geup)
The color red indicates danger. The student is warned to practice the control of his/her movements.

Black Belt (1st dan)
Black is the opposite of white and means the maturity of the student in the art.
